Here are two examples of the economic impact of the pandemic that I did not realize before and they show how inter-connected are the economics of modern civilization.

1. Restaurant workers. In the US. waiters in restaurant are not paid with minimal wages but at only 2dollars per hour which is basically nothing. Their livelihood depends on TIPS. But with no indoor dining and mostly take out business, these some 9 million workers face the problem of earning a living: Hunger and eviction became a big problem for most of these household. Employment benefits and temporary suspension of eviction regulation have all expired last week. But the Democrats and Republicans are miles apart from coming to an agreement on extension of these benefits. This is a crisis for a lot of people.

2. College football started out as a simple sports program for students. But nowaday it has become a 4 billion dollar business for the schools. At big football school, the profit to the university are over 100 million dollars. Student players are really employees engaged in entertainment business run by the universities, and they are clamoring for unions to represent them. But whether or not there will be a college football season this coming September is in seriour doubt and the economic impacts to the univeristies are completely uncertain

The above are merely two examples of the myriad inter-dependence of the US economy on the pandemic and its impact on livelihgood of many citizens and organizations. As a retired couple with grown successful and independent children, we are shielded from such crisis. We pray our nation can come out of this problem/crisis as well as we can and hope.
