Surviving the Illness of Coronavirus

The Greater Boston Chinese Cultural Association (GBCCA) sponsored a seminar by a local couple who survive the illness after taking a cruise earlier this spring (the wife was in hospital for 2 weeks while the husband was sick at home). Their well prepared talk was attended by some 50+ persons. However, this excellent, well researched, and informative talk, in my opinion, should be heard by a much large general public (and I don't know the date GBCCA will make the recording of this talk available to the public). Thus here are my take-aways from attending the talk live this afternoon

1.               While you may be fortunate to have survived the illness, the recovery is far from pleasant. For example, you find you need to take 2 or 3 rests in the middle of climbing a flight of stairs from one floor to the next. Other lingering effects too many to mention. You sometimes may wish you did not survive rather than living through the after effects.

2.               Except for big and famous hospitals, the average perfectly modern hospitals you belong to may not be adequately prepared to deal with your illness. For example, they may not have enough ventilator on hand when you need one.

3.               There currently are no drug/medicine/supplement that have been scientifically proven to work for treating this disease.

4.               Even if a safe and effective vaccine is available TODAY, it will be at least six months before most adults and senior over 65 can get access to the vaccine. There are at least 100 million persons who have priorities over you.

5.               Thus, you best course of defense is to NOT get infected via:

a.   SOCIAL DISTANCING

b.   WEAR A MASK WHEN YOU GO OUT

c.    STAY HOME AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
