How to mark a money spider with a body length of 1.6 - 2 mm?

Question

Hi everyone! What is the best way of marking a money spider with a body length of 1.6 - 2 mm. Using a non-toxic and odourless acrylic paint seems the best option so far, but how to apply it safely without harming a spider? Does anyone have experience? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Marking an individual can be difficult. If it's one group and another, it's easier to use the method you mentioned earlier.

It depends if the spider(s) in question are anticipated to molt. Applying acrylic, non-toxic paints with a very fine-tipped brush or perhaps pattern recognition software could be used (e.g. I3S), assuming molting does not occur. Molting would probably result in mark loss and/or pattern changes.

Thank you for your answer, Cody Barnes . All the spiders that we are planning to work with are adults. Thus, moulting should not be a problem. I will check the pattern recognition software as well, as you recommended. Thank you!

One of the methods used in the past is fluorescent powders. Getting some on the abdomen may mark them for a period of time, but you will be limited in the number of spiders you can have marked (based on recognizable colors) and you would need to darken the room (or work at night outside) to ID the individuals.
