澳大利亚西悉尼大学博士职位open

在西悉尼大学Hawkersbury Institute for the Environment已经交流学习近5个月,虽然西悉尼大学排名十分靠后,但是HIE研究所在气候变化生态学、土壤生态学研究方面属于后起之秀,学院集中了来自欧美的众多实力不俗的学者。

HAWKESBURY INSTITUTE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

TwoPhD scholarships are available for active, dynamic individuals with expertiseand interests in soil microbiology, carbon and greenhouse gas analyses,molecular microbial ecology and biodiversity-ecosystem function relations.

SCHOLARSHIP 1 – MICROBIAL MODULATORS OF SOIL CARBON

STORAGE

Thisproject focuses on the impact of microbial communities on soil aggregate sizeand their role in soil carbon storage. Supervisors: A/Prof Brajesh Singh andProf Ian Anderson.

SCHOLARSHIP 2 – ECOLOGICAL THEORY TO EXPLAIN MICROBIAL

REGULATION OF SOIL FUNCTION

Thisproject will address the question of whether ecological theory developed forplants and animals explains microbial regulation of soil function. Supervisors:A/Prof Brajesh Singh and Prof Peter Reich.

Eachproject will use a combination of cutting edge theoretical framework,functional assays and state-of-the-art molecular and metagenomic approaches.Candidates will be provided with extensive training in appropriatemethodologies, in addition to statistics, scientifi c writing and presentationskills.

CRITERIA

Thesuccessful applicant should:

» demonstrateexcellent academic performance in a field related to the proposed research

» holdqualifications and/or experience equivalent to an Australian First ClassBachelor Honours degree

» behighly motivated to undertake further study at an advanced level

» demonstratethe ability to organise and work independently

Internationalapplicants must also demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the Englishlanguage.

WHAT DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDE?
