Call for Papers

The 6thInternationalWorkshop on Computational Transportation Science (CTS 2014)

Hefei, Anhui, China

June 6-8, 2014

(Papers Due: March 20,2014)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MOTIVATION AND PURPOSE OF THIS WORKSHOP

In the near future, vehicles, travelers, and the infrastructure will collectively have billions ofsensors that can communicate with each other. This environment will enablenumerous novel applications and order of magnitude improvement in theperformance of existing applications. However, information technology (IT) hasnot had the dramatic impact on transportation that it has had on other domainssuch as business and engineering. Transportation systems, due to theirdistributed/mobile nature, can become the ultimate test-bed for the computingenvironment of unprecedented scale. A related development is the emergence ofincreasingly more sophisticated geospatial and spatial-temporal informationmanagement capabilities. These factors have the potential to revolutionizetraveler services, and the provision and analysis of related information. Inthis revolution, travelers and sensors in the infrastructure and in vehicleswill all produce a vast amount of data that could be interpreted and acted uponto produce a sea change in transportation.

The purpose of this workshop is to bring researchers andpractitioners together in order to set up visions on how the advancedcomputational methods can be and are used for today's isolated IT-tools so asto model, simulate, and manage large-scale complex transportation systems. Theemerging discipline of computational transportation science (CTS) combines computerscience and engineering with the modeling, planning, and economic aspects of transportation. The discipline goes beyondvehicular technology, and addresses pedestrian systems on hand-held devices,non-real-time issues such as data mining, as well as data management issuesabove the networking layer. CTS applications will improve efficiency, equity, mobility, accessibility, and safety by taking advantage of ubiquitouscomputing.
